December 3, 2003: After Kriss and I finish all of the perimeter drain system and back-fill all of the dirt around the foundation, Scott and Carl come back to pack the soil and put in some

gravel in order to make a base for the driveway.  After they flatten it out they put up forms for the general shape. Kriss and I got to spend WAY too much time agonizing over all of the borders and the walkway to the front door. We ended up with the 'boat' shaped flower bed you see in this picture (left, behind the packing machine). In the lower picture here you can see them grading the drive. The big stakes in the foreground are what I used to show them where we want the edge of the driveway.

Wherever the driveway meets existing concrete, Carl drilled holes and inserted re-bar to make sure that in the future the slabs don't shift away from each other vertically. Then the entire area gets laid with rebar in a grid to reinforce the slab. Bring on the mud!
